- Choose a topic
The topic you choose should interest and motivate you to go through the entire research and writing process. Also, consider what you can easily manage and have your topic narrowed down.
- Gather information
There are a wide variety of areas that you can use to collect as much information as possible. Use search engines, encyclopedia, libraries and even primary sources of data such as interviews. Use key words when surfing so as to avoid wasting a lot of time.
- Formulate a thesis
A thesis statement includes an overview of what you expect to cover in the other sections of your paper. It's mostly done in one or two sentences.
- Make an outline of your paper
An outline helps organize your work before you embark on writing. It should be focused on your topic. Write down an outline of what should be in; the introduction paragraph, body and conclusion. This includes the topic, sub topics and details in each.
- Organize your information
Data collected should be clearly organized. Sort each information with the relevant topic or sub topic. You need to efficiently communicate your findings and ideas.
- Write a draft
A draft is a copy of your piece of writing. You may choose to summarize or paraphrase the contents of the outline you had made earlier on.
- Revise your draft
Proofread the entire draft as you look out for any errors. You can always rearrange your ideas or the outline. Remember; do not slip out of the main topic.
- Write down the final copy
Your final piece of work should always be typewritten and printed. Your revised draft will guide you in writing the final copy. Don't forget to proofread the final copy.
- Edit your cover page
Every work should have a title and a table of content. The title should include: the topic, name and due date. A table of content that includes; topics, sub topics and pages of each.
- Checklist
A checklist helps you to ensure you have met all the requirements. Formulate one and ensure you either answer to the questions with either a 'yes' or a 'no'.
